A day hike in the El Morado Natural Monument, in the high Cajón del Maipo: 8 km up the valley of the Morales stream to the lagoon under the San Francisco glacier, with a mountain lunch facing the ice and a naturalist guide.

Itinerary

  1. 01

    Meet at the MUT 15 min

    Meet your guide at the MUT (Mercado Urbano Tobalaba), next to Tobalaba metro.

  2. 02

    Up the Cajón del Maipo 120 min

    Along the Maipo river to Baños Morales, at 1,850 metres.

  3. 03

    Park entry 15 min

    Registration at the El Morado Natural Monument and a briefing from your guide.

  4. 04

    Hike to the El Morado lagoon 150 min

    About 8 km of trail, climbing 700 metres through the valley of the Morales stream.

  5. 05

    Mountain lunch facing the glacier 60 min

    Lunch with Chilean products at the lagoon, under the San Francisco glacier.

  6. 06

    Glacier viewpoint 30 min

    If the group’s pace allows, a short walk to the closest view of the ice.

  7. 07

    Descent 120 min

    Back down the same trail.

  8. 08

    Back to the MUT 120 min

    Drive back to the MUT, Tobalaba.

Good to know

Season October to April. Moderate hike: about 16 km round trip and 700 metres of climb, up to 2,500 metres above sea level; good fitness required, ages 12+. Not recommended during pregnancy or with heart conditions. Departure from the MUT (Mercado Urbano Tobalaba, Tobalaba metro); hotel pickup can be added when booking.

  • Runs with 2 people. If a departure does not reach it, we tell you in advance and you choose: another date at no cost, private (paying the difference) or a full refund.
  • Never more than 10 people per group: if there are more bookings on the same day, we split the group.

  • We meet at a fixed, easy-to-find point (photo and directions below and in your voucher).
  • Hotel pickup in the city of Santiago can be added when booking.

How to get there
Metro Tobalaba (Lines 1 and 4): take the exit to Av. Apoquindo; the MUT is right there. We meet at its main entrance on Apoquindo, under the MUT sign.
